Visy has opened Australia’s first drum pulper — a A$42.5m investment in paper recycling at its Coolaroo facility.
The Premier of Victoria, Dan Andrews, Federal Minister for Environment and Water Tanya Plibersek and State Minister for Environment Ingrid Stitt joined Visy Executive Chairman Anthony Pratt and Visy Co-owner Fiona Geminder to unveil Australia’s most advanced paper recycling technology.
“This new equipment will increase our paper and cardboard recycling in Victoria by up to 95,000 tonnes per year to 180,000 tonnes, the equivalent of approximately 400 additional Olympic swimming pools of paper and cardboard,” said Pratt. “Any piece of paper from a Victorian kerbside recycle bin can now be recycled into new packaging in Victoria, meaning it never has to be landfilled or exported.”
