On August 14, a tornado ripped through the city of Tangara, Santa Catarina, Brazil, causing substantial damage to Valpasa Industria De Papel Ltda. The plant continues operation with nearly 90% of its building destroyed.
The roof of its 22,500 square meter facility collapsed, while their other roofs were blown away. Valpasa reports that they were without power for three days but have since resumed operation of its two corrugators and paper machine.
“We’re working day and night to rebuild everything.We estimate a loss of R$ 10m. Almost 70% of the stock was lost”, says Cezar Comachio, Vice President of Valpasa.
