Smurfit Kappa has confirmed an exciting three-year collaboration with Wigan Athletic. The agreement solidifies an ongoing partnership and prominently showcases the global paper-based packaging prowess on the front of the club’s first-team jerseys.
The partnership rekindles the strong bond between the two organisations, building on the foundations set during the 2019/20 Championship campaign, where Smurfit Kappa proudly became Wigan Athletics’ Back of Shirt sponsor.
Embarking on this new journey, the affectionately named Latics proudly unveils the Smurfit Kappa logo at the forefront of their 2023/24 shirts. This significant step forward comes under the ownership of Mike Danson, marking the dawn of a new and promising era. The unveiling of the Smurfit Kappa logo on the front of Latics’ Shirt debuted at the team’s first home game against Northampton Town on Saturday, 12 August.
Eddie Fellows, Chief Executive Officer of Smurfit Kappa, UK & Ireland, said, “We are delighted about our new multi-year partnership with Wigan Athletic and are proud to feature on the front of Latics’ shirts for the next three years. Given their roots in the local community and the new ownership structure, we believe in and support their project. It is an exciting time for the Football Club, and we wish them all the best in the upcoming season.”
Ben Goodburn, Wigan Athletic Director, said, “We’re naturally delighted that one of the most respected companies in the FTSE 100 has chosen to invest in its relationship with Wigan Athletic in this way. This is a significant deal for the Club and one that recognises the strength and power of the Wigan community.”
