Robert Habeck, the German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, has presented the first climate protection contracts to 15 selected companies in Germany. The Schumacher Packaging plant in Schwarzenberg was handed a climate protection contract valued at over €51m.
Hendrik Schumacher, CEO, said, ‘Thanks to the €51m funding, we will convert heat generation at the site to climate-neutral biomass and simultaneously generate green electricity for our production facilities. This funding, which will be provided over 15 years, represents a significant milestone for Schumacher Packaging on the road to decarbonisation and ensures long-term production and jobs in Schwarzenberg.”
The German government is pursuing the goal of making Germany climate-neutral by 2045 at the latest. Climate protection agreements such as this one enable companies to implement the switch to sustainable energies in an economically viable way.
