Packaging Corporation of America is closing its Allentown, Pennsylvania, sheet plant, effective March 31. According to a report in the local newspaper, “The Morning Call,” the company notified employees of the closing in early February. PCA has two plants in the area. The second plant, in Trexlertown, Pennsylvania, is a full-line box plant about 15 miles from the Allentown facility.
The Allentown sheet plant is a supplier of industrial packaging as well as electrostatic dissipative (ESD) packaging, foam and honeycomb inserts, chipboard and assembled partitions. About 20 people are employed at the plant. About 150 employees work at the nearby facility in Texlertown.
