K & D Graphics of Orange County, California plans to drive growth and increase productivity with its recent installation of the new Speedmaster XL 106 6-color press with “Push to Stop” technology and UV from Heidelberg. With the desire to continue producing the same high quality print jobs as its Speedmaster XL 105-6 LYY-P+6+L, K & D Graphics recently replaced an older, less efficient Speedmaster CD 102 for the new XL 106. The new press is part of a robust plant that also features a Diana 135X-B folder-gluer, 2 POLAR cutters, a Stahlfolder TH 82, Suprasetter 106 CtP, and Prinect Workflow. The XL 106 addition will help K & D achieve their plans for future growth.
“In two to three years, we expect to grow at least 20 percent,” said Don Chew, President and CEO of K & D Graphics. “In order to expand our business, we needed another top of the line press. The XL 106 is truly a peak performance machine, especially with the new Push to Stop technology.”
K & D Graphics’ XL 106 is equipped with DryStar UV and 3 UV-Interdeck dryers. The use of DryStar UV ensures maximum curing with minimum heat while still maintaining high quality print jobs. The IST quartz bulb guarantees a long life of at least 2500 hours. This has significantly increased print production capacity for high quality paperboard print jobs.
Equipped with the latest Push-to-Stop technology, the Speedmaster’s jobs are autonomously changed over without operator intervention and will continue to print until the operator interrupts it or until Intellistart 2 informs the operator of the next steps when action is required. The Push-to-Stop technology is only possible with Intellistart 2, a new unique integrated software system for effective job preparation. This software system reduces the number of operating steps during a job change percent and enables all operators to achieve the same results.
