Jones Healthcare Group, the Canadian manufacturer of advanced packaging and medication dispensing solutions, has confirmed a significant investment in a new, custom-built Koenig & Bauer Rapida 106 eight-colour press. The press will increase the company’s production capacity and drive speed to market with the highest quality and waste reduction for its health and wellness folding carton customers.
“As we move through the global pandemic, we remain a resilient organization that continues to invest in our business despite the uncertain marketplace, as well as a strong North American partner for organizations looking for nearshore and onshore suppliers,” says Ron Harris, President & CEO at Jones. “Our new press is just the first of our planned equipment investments through 2021 totalling $20m – all of which deepen our focus and service to wellness markets in support of our aggressive growth strategy.”
The Rapida 106 increases the company’s production capacity, flexibility and efficiency through highly automated technology and speeds of up to 18,000 sheets per hour, while also leveraging the high quality its customers expect. The company has equipped the press with a QualiTronic PDFCheck system for automatic, 100% inline inspection against customer-supplied PDFs at high resolution, as well as Koenig & Bauer’s Sheet Ident system for colour and quality control. Both features provide extensive reporting for customers and ensure their high-value packaging meets the rigorous standards of the health sector, while also maintaining important brand impact for consumers on store shelves.
“Koenig & Bauer has a long history of producing the most automated machines in the world and we’re proud to partner with the group on this custom solution. We’ve chosen certain features to enhance our operations and service and meet our customers’ specific needs,” adds Harris.
The Rapida 106 is will arrive at the company’s London, Canada facility this summer and is anticipated to be operational in October.
