According to several local news reports, International Paper plans to invest $552.7 million in its Selma, Alabama, mill to convert the line from uncoated freesheet copy paper to linerboard.
In September 2017 the company announced plans to invest about $300 million at the Selma mill as part of a plan to grow its industrial packaging business. The additional investment expands on those plans to convert the uncoated freesheet line to white top and kraft linerboard and containerboard.
“These products are important to the packaging industry, which is experiencing a boom due to surging levels of e-commerce,” states a press release from the Alabama Department of Commerce.
