Huhtamaki partner with Printzells Confectionery to transition to paper packaging

Printzells Confectionery AB, a small candy factory established in 1961, has partnered with Huhtamaki to transition from traditional plastic packaging to recyclable paper options.

“Approximately 18 months ago, our team received an email from Printzells stating they need paper cups and lids for their nut-based spread with a protective barrier against the product’s aggressive nature. Another requirement was that the packaging needed to be suitable for local paper waste management,” said the company. “This request perfectly aligned with Huhtamaki’s mission to provide fiber based packaging solutions while supporting local enterprises. Understanding the unique needs of Printzells, our FMCG Team embarked on a collaborative journey to find packaging that meets the customer’s specific requirements.”

After research and testing on customer’s side, a 300ml paper cup with the right barrier and sealing properties has been chosen to support customers. This cup also fits other food product ranges like yogurt and dairy.

By shifting to the paper cups and lids, Printzells can now offer their consumers products which enable simple recycling. This enhances their brand image and positions Printzells as a responsible business.

The shift from plastic to paper packaging is a significant step towards customer’s sustainability goals. By adopting the paper-based solution, Printzells is promoting recyclability.

“Huhtamaki was the first company we contacted that could deliver both the paper cup and the paper lid. Working with Huhtamaki has been great. This was a new field for us and we got strong support and information from Huhtamaki. We have received a really good response to this new product. Consumers today are much more informed and conscious about the environmental impact of their purchases.”
