Earth Overshoot Day was marked on 29th July, meaning that from now until the end of 2019, we will be consuming more than the Earth can replenish.
Tony Hitchin, General Manager of Pro Carton, the European Association of Carton and Cartonboard Manufacturers commented, “We’re committed to #MoveTheDate of Earth Overshoot Day and are proud that cartonboard — which is biodegradable and recyclable — comes from trees grown in sustainably managed forests and that as an industry we’re re-planting forests in Europe at the equivalent of 1,500 football pitches every day supporting the reduction of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. We urge brands and retailers to ensure product packaging is environmentally-friendly by choosing renewable materials like cartonboard to reverse our impact on the planet before it is too late.”
