DS Smith strengthens its supply chain operations using Real-Time visibility

DS Smith has joined forces with Transporeon, a transport management platform and Sixfold, a real-time visibility platform, to implement the next generation of supply chain technology.

The partnership will bring real-time visibility to DS Smith’s supply chain logistics network, providing information relating to vehicle positioning, while also enabling identification of delay risk, waiting time management and improvements. The integrated system provides clear metrics to the business for performance analysis.

The partnership benefits were on display during the initial phase of the Covid-19 pandemic, when countries across Europe designated the paper and packaging industry vital to the delivery of essential food and pharmaceutical goods. DS Smith took immediate measures to safeguard the flow of vital deliveries allowing the supply chain to continue to operate efficiently. These measures included providing daily updates and advice on border delays, with information provided directly to customers in collaboration with both Sixfold and Transporeon.

Commenting on the partnership Petra Lippertova, Head of Operations, Group Logistics at DS Smith said, “As part of our programme to deliver integrated logistics across our offering we partnered with Sixfold to increase our data efficiencies. The ability to integrate information from a wide range of transport suppliers using various tracking systems has been critical and means we can now provide reliable information to our customers. During the pilot, the solution delivered significant benefits and efficiencies.”

The partnership, using the most advanced real-time visibility technology, will allow DS Smith to continue to drive performance, data analysis, improved customer support and tackle the challenge of empty mileage in vehicle movements. Following on from the initial trials, the company is rolling out the technology across Europe followed by a trial in its North American operations.
