With a new testbench at its Headquarters in Weiherhammer, Germany, BHS Corrugated further strengthen it’s RSR® (Roll to printed Sheet in Real Time) Digital Print competence. Three and a half years have passed from the first idea to the first digital print in December 2020.
The company sees it an important strategic milestone for its Digital Print project. One Highlight is the fast ink change which is accomplished in just four hours. This is the basis for a Multi Supplier Network for process fluids giving customers of BHS Corrugated more choice when specifying their consumables.
The dimensions of the testbench are 17m long, 6m wide and a height of 5m. The central impression drum alone has a diameter of 2m and can handle paper widths of up to 360 mm. Another highlight is the variable drying module which enables users to optimise the important drying process which is crucial for the inkjet technology.
Next to the further development of modular assemblies and the process, the print quality will also be optimised. More examples are tests with inks from different manufacturers, optimising of the energy efficiency as well as the improvement of the printability of Liners. The variable drying module enables BHS Corrugated to optimise the inks towards high speed performance which is important for customers.
The test bench is a first step towards a Digital Print technical centre, a new Digital Print laboratory in the same building will follow.
