Colbert Packaging Corp. has installed Zünd G3 L-3200 cutting systems in its production facilities in Lake Forest, Illinois, and Elkhart, Indiana, and concurrently has implemented the latest Artios CAD software. Key features of the Zünd systems are their ability to multitask by working on multiple zones, and the ability to accept a wide range of materials, including E- and F-flute and other paperboards. These cutters enable Colbert to fulfill jobs ranging from a handful of samples to small production runs at a fraction of the cost of traditional production processes. Complementing the installation of the cutting systems is the implementation of the latest Artios CAD software.
Colbert Packaging has also installed a second Brausse 1060ER die-cutter in Elkhart and is said to be the first U.S.-based packaging supplier to implement this latest Brausse equipment with blanking technology. The company served as the U.S. beta site for the Brausse 1060ER, as the machine made its debut in the United States. The partnership and beta site arrangement grew from discussions that originated during a meeting of the Independent Carton Group, of which Colbert is a member.
“We were initially drawn to the Brausse 1060ER die-cutter for its high speeds and inline stripping and full blanking capabilities. Brausse’s technology rivals the best in the industry, the tooling is interchangeable with our Bobst machinery, and we have ready-access to domestically available parts and service,” said Tim Price, Vice President and General Manager of the Elkhart facility. “We run three shifts and lean heavily on our equipment. This diecutter is a workhorse – and now we have two.”
