International Paper has said that it intends to stop production of newsprint at its mill in Madrid, Spain, so it can begin the conversion process for PM 62 to a containerboard line. The process will begin in Q4 this year, with capacity coming on stream again in 2018.
The Madrid mill was acquired from Holmen in 2016, at which time IP confirmed it would be converting the paper machine to run containerboard. The company believes capacity of the machine will be around 380,000 tonnes per annum.
