DS Smith recently welcomed His Excellency Simon Thomas OBE, British Ambassador to the Republic of Croatia at the production unit in Belišće. The visit showcased the latest innovations in paper making at the mill.
As part of the official visit, the Ambassador undertook a guided tour of the mill and a presentation on the paper industry, the company, and its operations across Croatia, Europe and North America.
A key discussion point was work being done across DS Smith as it moves towards its ambitious science-based target to reduce CO2 emissions by at least 40% by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
Toni Bilić, DS Smith, Belišće Paper Mill General Manager, said, “We were delighted to welcome the British Ambassador to the Republic of Croatia to our mill, confirming the importance of DS Smith’s operations locally. It was exciting to not only showcase Belišće Mill, but also our integrated Recycling, Paper and Packaging operations, where within a 14-day cycle we can design, manufacture, collect and recycle sustainable packaging products for use across Croatia and Europe.”
His Excellency Simon Thomas OBE, British Ambassador to the Republic of Croatia stated, “It was a pleasure to visit DS Smith’s production facility in Belišće. It’s great to see British companies investing and succeeding in Croatia – their recycling, paper and packaging operations employ more than 750 people across the country. It was also good to hear how important environmental sustainability is to their business: maximising recycling, reducing their carbon footprint and looking for cleaner sources of energy. Advocating and supporting business to ‘go green’ was one of the aims of the climate conference COP26 in Glasgow last month.”
