Advantive’s Jim Hansen – aligning with customer needs and strategic decision-making

On the Driven by DCKAP podcast, Jim Hansen, Chief Product Officer, Advantive, shared how understanding customer needs and aligning software solutions can drive innovation and operational efficiency for manufacturers and distributors.

Hansen emphasised that businesses must focus on solving real customer challenges to ensure long-term success. Hosted by Karthik Chidambaram, CEO, DCKAP, the podcast also highlighted the role of specialised ERP systems in helping companies streamline processes and adapt to evolving industry demands.

Hansen talked about the importance of ‘intellectual honesty’ in making strategic decisions that prioritise customer needs, advising teams to focus on understanding customer pain points instead of falling in love with their own ideas. “The real trick is figuring out what not to do,” Hansen said. This approach encourages teams to stay objective and prioritise solutions that drive value for both the company and its customers.

Advantive is exploring how emerging technologies like generative AI can be leveraged to improve operational efficiency, both internally and for their customers. Hansen explains, “Technology is an enabler. AI empowers companies to make better decisions and drive their business forward.”

Hansen stressed the importance of understanding customer needs when developing technology solutions. “You’ve got to stay objective about what it is that you’re building. You can’t fall in love with your product,” he said. By focusing on solving real operational challenges rather than adding unnecessary features, leaders can develop technology that better meets the needs of buyers.

Hansen’s emphasis on understanding customer needs, making informed technology decisions, and integrating emerging technologies offers valuable lessons for businesses looking to optimize their processes and stay competitive in a rapidly evolving market.
