Fosber corrugator at the heart of Korinthos

DS Smith Hellas in Greece has confirmed the completion of the upgrade of its industrial facility in Korinthos. The investment of €17.6m  will further increase the production capacity of the factory by 30%. At the same time, it aims to upgrade equipment and enhance product quality for innovative packaging solutions.

The investment in the Korinthos factory is part of a wider investment program of €33.9m, which started with the upgrading of the factory in Ierapetra. This multi-year investment in DS Smith Hellas’ three factories is expected to increase production capacity, improve energy efficiency and advance the company’s goals for sustainability and innovation in the packaging sector.

In detail

At the company’s industrial facility in Korinthos, a Fosber S/Line 370 2.8m double wall corrugator with two level dry-end was installed to boost operational efficiency and optimise plant resource management, helping to increase overall efficiency. Also, a building extension of 825 sqm was carried out to house the new corrugator and the construction of the raw materials warehouse, which measures 3,300 sqm, was completed.

Alongside this, a state-of-the-art BOBST MASTER DRO was installed, upgrading printing capabilities and improving energy efficiency.

In addition, the expansion of the finished goods warehouse by 2,330 sqm is expected to be completed by November. The infrastructure upgrade improves material logistics management and boosts factory productivity by creating a dedicated area for work-in-progress (WIP) materials, with the aim of effectively managing the intermediate stages of the production process. Major upgrades were also made to the plant’s peripheral equipment.

As a result of this upgrade, DS Smith Hellas customers will be able to benefit from the development of innovative and high-quality packaging solutions, enhancing their brand image and ensuring that their products stand out both in retail stores and online. The high quality sustainable packaging solutions they guarantee the protection and safe transport of the products, while at the same time reducing unnecessary waste during the production process, with particular attention to the utilisation of materials.
