Innovation, creativity and a demand for the highest quality possible has allowed Falkland Press (also trading under the printedeasy.com web-to-print brand) to grow and succeed. Letchworth, UK-based Falkland Press is installing a brand new Heidelberg XL 106, which is the first of its kind in the UK market. It is commissioning a latest generation ‘push to stop’ Speedmaster XL 106-6+L, but unlike any previous press purchased, it can operate using conventional, UV or LE-UV inks and coatings
“We have specified this press to maximise the stocks we can handle and the work we put through it,” says Jon Lancaster, Managing Director. “It can as easily handle packaging jobs, commercial jobs, POS job and book work on coated and uncoated stocks in a wide range of grammages and even plastics. We are increasingly adopting a web to print and automated production approach and our aim is autonomous printing for rapid turnrounds but without compromise to quality.”
The company is replacing a five-colour B2 press, because the larger format gives Falkland more flexibility and higher throughput. It likes the automation and the ability to run conventional or UV and LE-UV as the jobs dictate. That may be decided by the stocks used, the speed or turnround or the aesthetic needs of the job in hand. It is the ambition of Mr Lancaster to foster a digital mentality across the plant, to network and automate processes as much as possible.
The new press will have the Wallscreen XL and improved Intellistart 2, Autoplate XL 2 for simultaneous plate changing and blanket wash ups and Inpress Control 2 for even faster and more automated inline colour and register control.
Already this year the company has added two joggers and two lifters, materials handling to lift the productivity of its Polar guillotines and a fully automatic TH82 palletised folder. Investment with Heidelberg UK this year is over £3m in total.
The company employs 48 staff and has a turnover of £5.5m operates with two Speedmasters and two HP Indigo presses. It operates from a 4,000 sqm site.
