Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill upgrade KDM-2

Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill (APPM), one of Russia’s largest producers of paper and corrugated board, is finishing preparations for the modernisation of the company’s flagship paper machine – KDM-2.

According to earlier statements from APPM’s Development Director, Pavel Smirnov, this project, along with the construction of a new evaporation station, are the most important projects to have been implemented by the company for the last few years.

According to APPM’s adviser on investment activities, Vladimir Krupchak, the modernised KDM-2 will become one the largest and most modern paper machines in Russia. Its wire width will be 6.3m, with a working speed of 800m per min, producing paper in a basis weight from 125 to 800gsm. When running 100gsm or lower, the speed will be 1,000m per min. The new machine has the capacity to produce more than 300,000 tonnes of corrugated base papers per year.

The cost of the project, including with installation works, is estimated at 7.5 billion rubles (US$180 million). The project is being undertaken by Valmet.
