RosUpack Expo

RosUpack is the best attended event for the Russian and CIS paper-based industries, having run successfully for 23 years now. This year was no exception, as paper, packaging and corrugated industry professionals gathered in Moscow for the annual event.

This year, the event coincided with the football World Cup, which caused much concern for the event organisers; there was real worry that with hundreds of thousands of football fans coming to Russia that hotel prices would rise significantly and visitors to the show might stay away. Some exhibitors left the booking right until the last minute, but within a matter of a few hours of opening, all fears were allayed for exhibitors and ornganisers alike. Visitors filled booths and aisles and the event organisers confirmed that attendance had been higher than in previous events, partially attributed to the fact they had joined two events together – Print Tech and Rosupack.

This year’s RosUpack saw an increase in show space, reaching 27,000 sqm. There was some growth in international exhibitors: machinery suppliers came from China, Japan, Taiwan, Turkey, Germany and Italy, with some companies like MHI exhibiting for the first time. “This can be explained by the growth in demand for international equipment from the Russian corrugated market, as it enters a period of significant growth,” explained Yura Bachurin from Corrugated Industry Magazine. “The signs are good, with 4-5% growth in Russia, Ukraine and other CIS countries.”

Some of the leading industry figures in the Russian corrugated sector were on hand at the event and were happy to report on the industry’s progress. Head of the board of Gotek, Vladimir Chuikov, believes the Russian market will grow 3-4% per year until 2020, following the global packaging trends. Alexander Zenkin from Center of Strategic Research noted that corrugated box production had grown +282% in Russia from 2000 to 2017. General Manager of The Cellulose Processing Association, Andrey Guryanov, spoke of positive trends of waste paper processing, with a +900% increase in figures from 2000 to 2017.

Alongside the exhibition, there was a series of seminars held over the four days. Leading industry suppliers such as Alliance Machine Systems Europe, Feltri Marone, Gotek, Macarbox and MHI presented their latest technology to visitors, while addressing the latest trends in machinery manufacture.

The next event will take place in Moscow from 18th – 21st June 2019. For more information, visit this website.
