Biffa has reported that it has agreed a £3m ‘zero-to-landfill’ waste management contract with DS Smith. The three-year deal is for the management of up to 15,000 tonnes of waste from 34 sites across the UK.

The deal will see all of the waste managed without being sent to landfill and is likely to include treatment such as incineration and recycling in accordance with the waste hierarchy.

Maxine Mayhew, COO for collections and specialist services, Biffa, said, “This is a fantastic group-wide contract that’s a real testament to the strength of our service offering as the UK’s leading sustainable waste management provider. We have the expertise and the infrastructure to deliver highly complex solutions for large organisations, and I’m delighted DS Smith, who share our sustainability vision and values, have trusted us to manage the waste at 34 of its sites across Scotland, England and Wales which will see zero waste sent to landfill, using more sustainable and carbon-efficient alternatives for waste that can’t be recycled.”
