When Emballages Mega Packaging, a family-owned folding carton manufacturer, sought a new offset press to take its production capabilities to the next level with advanced automation and cutting-edge technology, the management team signed a contract for a new generation fully-loaded Koenig & Bauer Rapida 106 six-color press hybrid UV with coater. The Montreal, Quebec firm will take delivery in the fall of 2023.
“Koenig & Bauer offer an extremely high degree of automation, which will allow us to be extremely flexible and efficient. We were also impressed with its strong Canadian service and more importantly for us a support network with technical staff based in Montreal,” says Marco Macri, President and CEO, Emballages Mega Packaging. “Our initial conversations with Koenig & Bauer were really productive and we decided to put our trust in them and, after visiting the factory in Germany and seeing a demo of our press, we are even more assured of our decision that Koenig & Bauer is the right press partner for us.”
In the past few years, Emballages Mega Packaging has experienced significant growth in part due to its commitment to delivering the highest quality folding cartons and unparalleled customer service. To continue to provide the best service and support for its customers, Macri and his Mega team sought out a press with technological advances and the flexibility to quickly adapt to today’s ever-changing packaging trends.
Speed, quality, and automation are at the heart of Mega’s new Rapida 106. Capable of handling a board thickness of up to 48 pt, the new Rapida 106 is equipped with a fully automatic logistics systems for continuous running on the thickest materials. Both color and quality control are emphasized with the QualiTronic ColorControl inline color control system and fast makeready tools utilizing unbent printing plates. Mega’s team is eager to employ the Rapida’s full QualiTronic PDF inline image inspection system, which compares every printed sheet with the PDF data from pre-press. One of the biggest determining factors for Mega was Koenig & Bauer’s unique SIS Sensoric Infeed System, which requires no setting and ensures mark free, reliable feeding. Fully automatic plate changing, real-time performance monitoring, and simultaneous roller washing are among the other automated features of Mega’s press. Macri has determined that the new Rapida 106 will be 50% more efficient—double the firm’s current rate—and provide extra capacity.
Customer support was another central reason in Mega’s decision to partner with Koenig & Bauer. Mega was impressed with Koenig & Bauer’s strong commitment in offering unparalleled customer support. He and his team can call for technical assistance, training, or guidance on how to get the most out of their new Rapida 106 from Koenig & Bauer’s team of experts, local support staff, and Montreal-based technicians.
Once installed in the fall of 2023, Emballages Mega Packaging will be operating the first-generation hybrid UV press in Canada and in the folding carton market. It will also be the third new generation Rapida delivered to the Montreal region this year.
“Our dedication to our customers and our commitment to quality is what drove this decision to purchase the Koenig & Bauer Rapida 106,” says Macri. “Our focus is squarely on customer satisfaction and is always at the forefront of our company. The quality and automation of this new Rapida press will ensure that we keep that commitment. As we develop this strong partnership into the future, we’ll be looking to add more products from the wide range of machinery from the Koenig & Bauer portfolio.”
