It has been reported by Euwid that Hamburger Containerboard is set to implement a substantial price rise from the start of October, due to high energy costs.
The company is believed to be increasing its prices by €125 per tonne (£100 per tonne) from 1st October. The company is reported to have said that this step was a necessary consequence of the rising energy costs which have increased almost eightfold in the last 12 months, and was needed to ensure production continues. “The current price reductions in the PFR sector were far from being able to compensate this huge cost disadvantage,” the company explained.
In addition, Hamburger has confirmed that it would reduce its production capacity by a total of 70,000 tonnes in September and October. During this period, power plant overhauls in Hungary and Austria, which have been planned for some time, will be carried out.
