After the initial investment in a HP PageWide T1190 Press and the successful upgrade of the Fosber corrugator at their Fulda site with E+L’s SmartLine system, DS Smith has now upgraded their Arenshausen facility to optimise the running of multi-job, digitally printed rolls.
The DS Smith plant in Fulda supplies digitally pre-printed rolls to many other DS Smith plants to enable them to serve their customers locally. With the experience gained at the Fulda installation, Fosber and E+L have developed a bespoke SmartLine interface to easily upgrade a conventional Fosber corrugator to make running digitally printed rolls even easier.
These multi-job rolls support small order quantities and just-in-time manufacturing without compromising corrugator performance. With this seamless integration, customers can order high-graphic boxes in quantities to meet their immediate needs without having to invest in inventory or risk suffering from obsolescence or waste due to design changes. Brand owners can be more agile and change their print designs to respond rapidly to their market without the need to invest in conventional printing plates. E+L plans to support upgrades to a range of corrugators on the market.
This successful collaboration between Fosber and E+L allows packaging producers to respond to their customers’ needs dynamically, enabling just-in-time manufacturing, a reduction in waste and increasing market competitiveness without impacting on the corrugator’s performance.
