Mondi Syktyvkar successfully completes €135m power plant upgrade

Mondi Syktyvkar, one of the Group’s paper mills in Russia, has successfully completed a major step in the modernisation of its power plant, with the installation of a new bark boiler. The project totalled €135m and will lead to about a 4% reduction of CO2 for the entire Mondi Group.

Mondi Syktyvkar worked with Valmet as the main equipment supplier to execute this transformation. This project will allow the plant to significantly improve its environmental performance and to decrease greenhouse gas emissions.

“The power plant is a key part of the mill infrastructure. It also provides over 15% of electric energy demand within the Komi Republic and is a single heating source for the Ezhva district with a population of 60,000 people. Through significant investment and efforts of a highly professional team we have installed a state of the art power plant which will ensure stable generation of heat and electric energy for the mill and the surrounding region, and reduce the overall environmental footprint of the mill as we move towards a low-carbon economy,” said Klaus Peller, Managing Director of Mondi Syktyvkar.

Mondi Syktyvkar is a part of Mondi Uncoated Fine Paper. The mill’s core business is the production of office and offset paper, but it also produces newsprint, containerboard and market pulp.
