Following the recent announcement from Orora that it had sold its fibre packaging business to Nippon Paper Group of Japan, the business unit has now been given a new name – Opal.
Opal’s key operations are in Australia and New Zealand and they have a worldwide network, making them one of Australasia’s leading packaging and paper companies.
The business directly employs more than 4,500 people across its operations. They operate over 80 sites in Australia and New Zealand including export offices in Europe, North America and Asia.
Opal Australian Paper is one of the largest users of the Port of Melbourne, exporting Australian made products to more than 70 countries around the world. Other units within the new company include Opal Paper & Recycling, Opal Converting Group, Opal Fibre Packaging, Opal Kiwi Packaging and Opal Speciality Packaging.
