Fire at Hamburger’s Spremberg mill contained quickly, with no injuries

Hamburger Containerboard has confirmed that on 29th March, at around 3:45 pm, there was a fire in the stock preparation area of its mill in Spremberg. The incident occurred during welding work on the construction site of PM2. A company spokesperson said, “Due to the rapid intervention of the LEAG fire department, the fire was quickly extinguished and no one was injured, despite the large amount of smoke. The impact on the overall construction project can not currently be quantified, but the rapid response on site makes it manageable.”

With an investment project of €370m, Hamburger Containerboard is expanding its production site in the Schwarze Pumpe industrial park, which result in it being one of the most modern paper mills in Europe. When the plant is fully utilised, 500,000 tons of high-quality corrugated casemaking raw materials will be produced every year.
